A Simple Plan: Supplies

How Lab Freezers are used

Although Lab freezers may look like freezers used in your home or perhaps slightly bigger than it, they are used to store critical materials, some of which are hazardous. What is important with the materials stored inside lab freezers is that they need to be kept at constant, regulated temperatures. Lab freezers comes in different sizes from the extremely small that can fit under any counter, the regular-sized upright freezers which are similar to our home freezers, and the extremely large walk-in freezers. While the lowest temperature of our home freezers reach -10 degrees Celsius, there are lab freezers that are kept at extremely low temperatures of -85 degrees Celsius.

There are many uses of lab freezers. Some of the things you can find in a lab freezer includes serums and tissue samples, samples of DNA and RNA, protein extracts, and bacteria strains. Organs and blood are preserved in lab freezers in hospitals, while medicines are kept in lab freezers in pharmacies. To prevent degradation of specimens, they are kept in the lab freezer t constant temperature.

Like your home refrigerator unit, there are also lab freezers that are used for general purpose. And just like a home refrigerator, these lab freezers also have shelves inside and in the doors and in order to prevent the escape of the cold, there are rubber gaskets to protect it. But, these freezers are kept at very low temperatures usually between -15 to -25 degrees Celsius. These lab freezers have a locking device and in order not to keep opening the lab freezer to check its temperature, it comes with an LCD temperature display so that temperatures can be monitored constantly.

You will find different types of lab freezers for different purposes. There are low temperature freezers that can store thousands of samples in many freezer racks and reach very low temperatures. There are freezers that does not use liquid nitrogen but can reach really low temperature levels of up to -150 degrees Celcius.

If you are storing flammable materials, a lab freezer is very important. There are freezers that are designed especially for safe storage of volatile materials that have CFC free, formed-in-place insulation and hermetically sealed compressors. If you are freezing critical biological or life science materials then the freezer should not only comply with OSHA standards but also have alarms, monitors and back up performance features.

The blood bank freezer is a important freezer product, and this is used for storing blood and plasma. Since regular freezers temperature cannot be controlled when doors are opened, blood cannot be stored there. It is not difficult to maintain blood bank freezers since the shelf life of blood is very short and is important is saving lives.
